Designed to process and render millions and even billions of particles, AWS Thinkbox Krakatoa provides a pipeline for acquiring, caching, transforming, modifying, shading, and rendering vast quantities of particles. Krakatoa helps artists render natural phenomena like dust, smoke, ocean foam, viscous liquids, and even solid objects to production quality standard. Krakatoa has been used in-production to generate visual effects and elements for movies like Avatar, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows 2, The Avengers and Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Lightweight

CPU-based and highly optimized for 64-bit computing, Krakatoa can be used successfully on most hardware running Windows or Linux operating systems, including laptops and render nodes without dedicated high-end graphics accelerators.

Works with your tools

Krakatoa is available for Audodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D or as a standalone particle renderer with a powerful C++ API which can be used to connect the renderer to 3D and 2D applications such as SideFX Houdini, The Foundry's Nuke, MAXON, and more.

Particle manipulation

Krakatoa supports per-particle Scatter, Emission, Absorption and Density data channels, as well as various light scattering models to allow deep levels of control over the final image. Motion blur and depth of field camera effects are naturally supported.
